Today’s Prayer

How lovely is your dwelling place, Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. —Psalm 84:1-2, (NIV)

Dear Heavenly Father, we often ponder what heaven may be like.  Will we recognize loved ones when we get there?  Are the angels singing continually?  What will it be like to see your full glory? How will it feel to experience love and happiness everywhere all the time? Lord, we cannot really fathom what heaven will be like. We know it will be full of you, but in our limited human understanding how can we possible grasp how high and wide and deep is your love for us?  Yet we yearn to know you, to come close to you, and to spend time with you. That's why every week we come to your sanctuary. Though we are limited, here you dwell among us. We long to come and linger here so that you can strengthen our faith through Word and sacrament. During this hour of worship, slow us down, Lord, so that we may seek your face and spend time in your presence while still on earth. Amen.
